Hole Brothers - Watertown, NY June 15, 2007 The pictures included in this volume document the activities on one wave over a one hour period. It was late in the afternoon on Saturday the 21st of July 2007, and the action was on the wave commonly known as Hole Brothers, located on the Black River in Watertown, NY. Earlier that morning we had kayaked the Salmon River in the nearby town of Pulaski with the KCCNY (Kayak and Canoe Club of NY). The Salmon is an easy paddle for a beginner to the sport of whitewater kayaking. After the Salmon River trip Jack and Ellen Moskowitz decided to gather a small group of KCCNY friends and head 30 miles north to Watertown to check out the lauded Hole Brothers wave. In times past downtown Watertown was a manufacturing community and the evidence of the role the river played in powering the paper plants that populated the riverfront is still evident in the infrastructure lining the river. Standing more than 20 feet tall the stone and brick embankment adjoining the historic mill provided a perfect location to setup my tripod. The Black River is more than one hundred feet wide at this location so I used a long lens and zoomed in on that one wave in the middle of the river. The photographs that follow document the activities of my KCCNY friends and the other kayakers who had descended upon the Hole Brothers wave that Saturday afternoon in July. As the kayakers take turns sharing the wave, the photos follow the basic time line of the one hour period Come share the ride. Kayakers: Jack Moskowitz, Ellen Moskowitz, Steve McLuckie, Scott Sail, Ram Tripathi, Fergus Coffey, Derek Snyder, Chris Gragtmans, and Tino Specht. |
